The Spirit Of Don Julio
Mexicans have been distilling some form of tequila for over 400 years, and the Aztecs for many centuries before that. Today, it’s one of the most sought after spirits in the world, and the lifeblood of Jalisco, the only region of Mexico where it can be produced, using exclusively blue agave plants. A poor kid with a big dream, Don Julio González managed to open his own distillery in 1942, La Primavera, still operating today from the mountains of Atotonilco El Alto. He dedicated his life to making a great spirit and his passion was crucial to establishing new standards in the field, generating huge economic opportunities for Jalisco and spreading tequila from the Tapatio scene of Guadalajara to thousands of bars and restaurants around the world.
